Sam Hughes Neighborhood, Arizona

Sam Hughes Neighborhood is just east of the University of Arizona and about two and a half miles from downtown Tucson.  Designated as a national historic district in 1994, the Sam Hughes neighborhood is a square-mile, centrally located and bound by Speedway Boulevard, Broadway Boulevard, Campbell Avenue and Country Club Road.

Some of the charm of Sam Hughes comes from the interesting old houses, some from the excellent grammar school, some from the lovely people who live here. Residents along the northwest area of the neighborhood are more likely to hear fireworks and general noise during football games, which are primarily in the evenings. That is something to consider, otherwise it tends to be a quiet neighborhood.

There is a large array of building styles in this community. Most are brick based with larger front yards and fenced-in back yards. It also has more in way of greenery, including towering trees and lush vegetation. While it doesn't have the kind of plant life neighborhoods closer to the mountains have, it is hard to find anything with more natural desert beauty in such a central location.
